The Alps, for all their variety and diversity, none-the-less constitute a single, united region. By presenting the Alps as a tourism destination that goes beyond the borders of individual States, this guidebook contributes to the implementation of the Alpine Convention’s protocol on tourism.

Integrativ dynamischer Naturschutz in den Österreichischen Naturparken
47 Autorinnen und Autoren aus Österreich, Deutschland, Luxemburg, Frankreich, Slowenien und der Schweiz beteiligten sich am Projekt „Neue Modelle des Natur- und Kulturlandschaftsschutzes in den Österreichischen Naturparken“.
Die Studie umfasst neben den allgemeinen Grundlagen die Beschreibung von über 40 Natur- und Kulturlandschaftsschutzprojekten aus allen 7 Naturpark-Bundesländern und dem Ausland zu den Hauptfeldern Arten- und Biotopschutz, Besucherlenkung, Naturvermittlung, Inwertsetzung der geschützten Landschaft durch Produkte, sanfte Mobilität sowie zu Projekten mit intensiver Einbindung bzw. Beteiligung der Bevölkerung und Interessensvertreter.
Der Bericht verdeutlicht die wichtige Rolle, die den Naturparken als prädikatisierte geschützte Landschaften zufällt und veranschaulicht, wie integrativ dynamischer Naturschutz in den Naturparken umgesetzt wird: Er stellt sich sowohl den gesellschaftlichen Interessen des Schutzes als auch der Nutzung der Natur und hat einen fairen Interessensausgleich und eine zum wechselseitigen Vorteil dienende Zusammenarbeit zum Ziel.

France launches the idea of establishing a European network of Alpine Protected Areas.
Organisation of the 1st International Conference of the Alpine Protected Areas in Les Ecrins National Park (FR).
Drafting of the rules for ALPARC's procedural regulations;
Official recognition of ALPARC - The Alpine Network of Protected Areas as a contribution to the application of the Alpine Convention.
Conference of the Protected Areas of the European mountains.
The Steering Committee of the Alpine Convention gives ALPARC the responsibility to carry out a study on ecological networks and transboundary areas.
ALPARC celebrates its 10th anniversary.
ALPARC’s staff becomes attached to the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention under the name 'Task Force Protected Areas'.
Official partnership between CIPRA, ISCAR and WWF on the Ecological Continuum Initiative.
With the goal of creating a genuine ecological network, ALPARC launches a large-scale project on ecological corridors in collaboration with partner organizations.
Contracting parties of the Alpine Convention, the Carpathian Convention and the Biodiversity Convention sign the Memorandum of Cooperation.
