The Trophy of the Alpine Protected Areas

The Trophy of the Alpine Protected Areas

National Park Hohe Tauern

The largest national park in the Alps lies at the heart of the unique, high-mountain landscapes of Hohe Tauren. Like an Artic voyage (from 1,000 to 3,798 meters in altitude) immense and prestigious Alpine ecosystems are conserved here, untouched by man. National park Hohe Tauren stretches over a surface area of 1,856 km2, covering parts of Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol. The national park’s altitude levels range from 1,000 to 3,798 meters and extend about 100 km from East to West and about 40 km from North to South. Its pristine landscapes in the core area are connected to the well-maintained, cultural landscapes of its peripheral zone. This allows for the extraordinary biodiversity of this large, protected living space to be sustainably preserved.
